Immersion performance

For performance Immersion on the first day we had to write what we thought described the words; creativity and drama. We watched a video off a Syrian individual who rebeled against the law. The character was a dancer, and in Siria that is illegal. There is even though there was a risk he could've been killed for it. Ahmed Joudeh, (The dancers name) found dancing a way of expressing his emotions. We had to make shapes with our bodys  and play games that involved acting and dancing. By the end of all the immersions I decided this was the project I wanted to enrol for . The idea for the project was to make a show, so all sorts of jobs were up for grabs. Backstage, props, lighting, sound, stage managing and performing.

Auckland live

Image
On Tuesday the 19th of September Lc7, Lc4 and Lc2 went to Auckland live. We participated in three workshops. In the first one we learnt about theatre and all the different roles. We got to act in a short play and got to choose a role to play in the play. (Pun unintentional)  I acted as a witch.     In the next workshop we watched another presentation although this one was about listening. The act was about someone who had eaten a pack of biscuits that was meant for someones birthday. There was only one left and the person who ate the packet was told to guard the last biscuit. It was really interesting the way they used noises to show what the person was thinking and how they felt. In the end she ate the cookie anyway. For the final workshop we had to follow the leader. That was basically all we did. We got to see some of the new inventions for the people who can't walk and some of us got even go on them.

Immersion decoration

For our second Immersion my group were with Liv . We were working on adding more detail in our school. We went on a small trip to the high school  to take photos of what we wanted in our own school. On the second day we split of into groups and were all given a photo that we took at the high school. The point of the excercise was to write about what we saw in the photo's. On the third day we got to draw a symbol or what we thought described our school the best. I drew a griffin above clouds to represent the school motto; reach for the sky.

Immersion playground

In project immersion we have been working on designing a new playground on Tinkercad. I found it rather difficult as people around me were breezing through all the tutorials. Once we had finished designing our playgrounds we sent them to Jono who 3d printed them. It was really  hypnotising  watching the 3d printer go back and forth. The only problem was that the printer would take about 8 hours to complete our playground designs so only a few could print them

Projects

Fountain Rangers On tuesday  the 23 of August, 2017 lc7 started a new phase of projects. We got to think of what problems we thought were significant in the school and put all our ideas on a doc. After that we got into groups of three's and had to choose four of all the ideas and put them in order for what ones we thought were best. At the end of that procces  Evan, Aidan and I had got four options rated from best to worst. In number one we had the P.E shed not being accesible . In number two we had people treating the water fountains with disrespect. For number three we had people chasing after all the ducklings and scaring them, and in number four we had people not treating devices with respect. Once we had done that we split of into groups for what ones we wanted to work on the most. Evan, Aidan, Cohen, Lily-Rose, Lelani and I all chose the water fountain problem.

Sports

Sports Every week, on wednesday  some select people get to join a sport program in school time. It is run by high school students, and I think everyone will agree with me when I say it is really fun. The coaches are really nice, and although it seems like they like to dish out a lot of punishments , the games they run are awesome. A lot of the kids who haven't even played soccer before have learnt a lot. We all even had the opportunity to go to a soccer tournament, which I released a blog post about earlier. Here's the link if you want to read that one as well:  The soccer tournament.

Bridge Project

What bridge design can hold the most weight On the 2nd week of term 3, 2017 lc7 decided to learn about science. We had three options: Science fair, work for a science badge, or another which I can't remember. Harrison and I chose to do the science fair, and brainstormed an idea. We gathered information, summarized it, and then made a detailed hypothesis. The next week we started building our experiment. We made the warren truss first, which took us the longest as we had to figure out what sort of base design would work best. Next we made the deck truss, and we managed to finish that one in about one hour. The beam bridge was by far the easiest as we only had to make the layout. Next we tested how much the different bridges could hold. The Warren truss managed to hold 3 kgs, the beam bridge survived 4 kgs and the deck truss also held 4 kgs.

Projects

For projects we had a choice between trying for a science badge, and working in our school science fair. Harrison and I are working together on our experiment where we test which bridge can hold the most weight. The contest is between the warren truss, the deck truss and the beam bridge. We believe the deck truss will be able to hold the most weight.

Writing

Explanation We have done a lot of different writing subjects. Persuasive arguments, debates, and now an explanation. It surprised me how little amount of time it actually took me to finish it. As we had to make a plan as well. We had four subjects we could all choose from: What is energy. To what extent have scientists discovered all forms of energy. Can energy run out. How is energy important in the everyday lives of people. As you may have noticed all subjects are based around energy. I chose to research how is energy important in the everyday lives of people. As I was away the day the workshop for the explanations happened, competing in a chess tournament, I was not informed until the last week and had to hurry to complete it. However I did manage to finish it.

The rusty nail: Immersion work

The rusty nail On the 15 of June 2017, a quarter of lc7's class learnt chemistry. One of the exercises was to put a nail in a glass of salt water, and another in glass of fresh water. We had to write up a hypothesis of what we thought would rust faster, and I thought salt would. We waited five days, recording different changes that we saw, and on the fifth day took the nails out. most of the class, even the LA was surprised to realize that fresh water actually rusted faster. This was a surprise to me, for as our LA Nicole said when you take your boat out of the ocean you rinse it down with fresh water. So this was rather puzzling.

Writing

Writing I'm slowly writing more and more pages. Right now i 'm on 137 pages. Here's a link to find out more about the book.  Click

The soccer tournament

Image
The soccer tournament On Tuesday the twenty third of May, thirteen boys from HPPS left to play in a soccer tournament. It was a really fun day, and we all enjoyed it. My favourite part was when we versed my old school soccer team. It was a really close game, and on several occasions we had the chance to score, however we were very unlucky, and scores remained tied. In our second game, we played against one of the stronger teams in the tournament, and lost one nill . Throughout the day, it was a very fun, and joke full day. The team always had a smile or a grin on their face, and I think we all had a great day. For our third game, we drew again. We held the lead right up until the end, and in the last minute the other team scored, making it one all. Finally we came to our last game. If we won this we would get to the semi finals. I managed to score the first goal of the game, closely followed by Ethan. They managed to get one back, but Myer scored another, so we won! We thought ...

Energy

Energy immersion We are about to start a new immersion on energy. Here is a link to check out my progress: Energy
